Reading Water Quality in Salmon Creek

Presentation by Adrianna Hirtler, biomonitoring Coordinator for the Community Science Institute

Thursday, October 1st, 2026

Time: 7pm

Location: Lansing Town Hall, Lansing NY

*Free and open to the public*

About the presentation:

Join Arianna to find out how you can actually "read a stream" to assess water quality by looking at the amazing diversity of life found underneath cobble-sized rocks in riffles. You'll learn how to recognize some of the major groups of organisms that can help anyone do a DIY assessment of water quality in any rocky-bottomed stream and we'll explore a live stream sample from Salmon Creek.

Communities Can Help to Conserve Birds

Presentation by Dr. Jody Enck, Cayuga Bird Club

Wednesday May 27th, 2026

Time: 7pm

Location: Lansing Town Hall, Lansing NY

*Free and open to the public*

About the presentation:

Getting the community engaged in bird conservation efforts can be challenging but offers many enduring rewards. Dr. Enck’s inspirational and fun presentation will share practical lessons he's learned from leading community projects for the Cayuga Bird Club’s Conservation Action Committee. Dr. Enck's passion for birds was nurtured while growing up on a Pennsylvania farm. As an ecologist and social scientist, he's meshed his interests by studying birders and bird conservation. He's connected birders throughout the western hemisphere by forming the Sister Bird Club Network and leading over a dozen international birding trips for the CBC fostering real-world conservation challenges and successes.
