2026 Tax Payments Updates:

Cash Payments: Tax payments made in cash must be in exact amount.

USPS Postmark Regulation Change: We would like property owners to be aware of a significant change regarding USPS postmark regulation. Beginning on January 1, 2026, mail will be postmarked with the date an envelope is first processed by the USPS sorting machine and NOT the date when mail was accepted by the postal service.  The “postmark” date on mail could potentially be days after the letter was mailed. 

The postmark on your envelope determines whether your tax payment is on time or late. Please be aware of this change when mailing tax payments and allow extra business days to ensure it is properly postmarked prior to the due date.

It is highly recommended you request a manual postmark.  This requires taking your envelope inside the Post Office and requesting a “manual (local) postmark” from the clerk.  See photo above for what a manual postmark might look like.

Notary Services:

As of 10/15/2025, our office is putting a temporary hold on walk-in notary services. Appointments must be made via phone (607-533-4142) or by emailing clerksoffice@lansingtownny.gov. Appointments will only be scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 10am and 2pm.
